Then, after an excellent dinner of chicken parmesan (which Jack won’t eat so he got a peanut butter sandwich, I noticed), we all gathered in the rain around a tiny, smoky campfire…to sing. Because apparently that’s what you do around campfires—sing silly songs about baby sharks and boom-chicka-booms and stuff like that. I sat by Danny again. he likes music, and he’s good at the hand motions that go with songs. Jack picked a sitting log on the opposite side of the fire from me and pretended to be having fun with Sawyer and Jay. They’re just random kids in our class.
